About the Book
Positive Psychology Interventions for Increasing Well-being and Happiness focuses on what is strong in us rather than what is wrong in us. This book teaches proven Positive Psychology
Interventions that will increase well-being and fulfillment in your life.
We share proven ways to change your thinking and behavior that are based on the growing body of research by those practicing and studying what is called Positive Psychology and Positive Psychiatry.
In this book, we offer a set of Positive Psychology Interventions which are approaches, tools, and guidance, to help you learn the skills of how to direct your attention in a way that you grow in contentment and well-being no matter what the external circumstances of your life. The good news is that you can learn and practice these approaches and experience positive changes in your life.
For too long, psychology and psychiatry have focused on disease and there has been too little study of what makes life worth living - and on promoting simple, effective, preventive approaches to mental health and well-being.
If you want to increase your well-being, then this book is for you. If you are suffering from depression or anxiety, this book is also for you. We share proven ways to change your thinking and behavior that are based on the growing body of research by those practicing and studying what is called Positive Psychology and Positive Psychiatry.
The 23 Positive Psychology Interventions presented in the book help to increase well-being and reduce or eliminate the symptoms of depression and anxiety. The interventions are simple but not simplistic. These interventions are useful, practical, and easy to learn. When you use them, you experience improvements in well-being and create more contentment in your life.
In recent decades, the field of Positive Psychology has done increasing research on what makes life worth living and on how to support that growth in your life. (See the section on the background of Positive Psychology in the Explanation section of the book.) The approach we share is to learn how to add more well-being and like adding light, even a little more contentment allows for notable improvement in your life. And as more “light” is added, the “darkness” of depression, anxiety and lack of fulfillment diminishes. It is not because it has “gone away” but rather, because more well-being and balance in life have returned.
Positive psychology and the interventions in this book complement the treatment of any talk therapy or substance abuse treatment without replacing or ignoring traditional therapies. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or any mental health issue that feels overwhelming, please seek professional help from a psychiatrist, psychologist, other mental health provider, or life coach in addition to working with the exercises in this book. It would be especially helpful to obtain help from someone who is acquainted with positive psychology interventions.
